Why Me?
Hello! I am Olivia Witzmann, currently a senior at Bucknell University, located in Lewisburg PA. I am studying Psychology with a minor in Studio Art and concentration in Markets, Innovation and Design. My relevant coursework is featured below has assisted me in my experience in my job positions and the rest of life! The courses that have helped me prepare for opportunities in these fields are:
My liberal arts education supplied me with an integrated perspective approach that makes me stand out from other applicants. My design thinking process is not based towards one field or one line of thinking, rather being creative and blending in numerous aspects of related disciplines. I have learned to find the intersection between psychology and architecture, which was actually the reason why I landed my first internship. Another beneficial trait of mine is being proactive and determined. I knew I wanted to work in the architectural design world, but lacked the experience and schooling. This didn’t discourage me from emailing tons of architecture firms nearby to see if they had any open opportunities for me, or even if I could just come into their firm to shadow. I finally got an answer back from this firm in my town I drive past almost everyday and always thought how cool it was. After diving more into their website and Instagram, I found they are responsible for designing some of my favorite restaurants and houses in my area. On top of that, through more research I found all these famous hotels, bars, restaurants, and many more attractions they built in New York City. When I sat down in front of the boss for an interview the first thing he said to me was, “Well, Olivia I can say you have been the first ever architect intern applicant with a Psychology degree”. My immediate response was, “Well here let me prove to you how that is better!”. I gave my speech on how I found the cross-section between my studies in the psychology field mixed with my love for design and interiors. I explained how the light, the ceiling height, furniture layout, and different colors affects people’s mood and how they interact with the space. My determination and unique thinking is how I earned being hired on the spot. |
